Product Description
THE ENEMY WIND is one of The Weather Channel's most popular documentaries. It deals with tornadoes, their behavior and how they are generated. As it explores our historical relationship with tornadoes, THE ENEMY WIND discusses recent research into improving our ability to forecast storms and shows the work of a group of nerveless adventurers, the tornado chasers. This video explains how researchers use computer applications, small-scale laboratory weather models and field measurements from the tornado chasers to help find the answers to these concerns. The after effects of a tornado in Andover, Kansas, highlight this video that looks at why tornadoes happen, how they can be predicted and how people can survive them. Produced by The Weather Channel, Atlanta, GA. Prior to the start of this 25-minute Weather Channel Special PResentation the video contains 20 minutes of bonus video featuring the work of storm photographer Matthew Faidley maki8ng the total length of this video 45 minutes.

5 out of 5 stars So far so good!   April 19, 2010

I bought this mainly for the inside, and wanted a good guess about the next day as well. This product does what I wanted and more. The only thing I have bad to say about it is, I wish it was a little taller, and wider. But on the plus side, it's worth all that I paid for it.

4 out of 5 stars Weather Internet Gadget Works as Advertised   April 28, 2010

Just purchased this item. Things that I like about it:
1.) It is the larger version measuring 7" square making it easier to read.
2.) The device is completely independent of the computer, unlike some other systems the require that your computer is on. It is a real internet gadget. Simply connect it to your ethernet system.
3.) Very easy setup.
4.) Although it only updates every 6 hours, you can force an update at any time. Since I got this item for it's forecasting ability, the 6 hour update is not unreasonable.
5.) I like the internet setup options, very helpful.
Things I would like to see improved:
1.) Full time display of outside temperature as at least an option. The outside temperature is not one of the permanent displays. You can press a button to see the outside temperature or you can wait for it to appear as part of the scrolling information on the bottom of the display.
2.) Adjustable update rate.
3.) Automatic Morning, Afternoon, Evening, and Night mode switch based upon the time of day. It appears that you can get them to cycle through, but I would prefer that they auto mode themselves to the time of day as well as permitting the current implementation of letting the user cycle through them if I want specific information about a time of day.

3 out of 5 stars Nice device, baby monitor users beware...   July 6, 2010

I purchased this item as I was looking for a product that would show me the outside temperature and a little weather information when I awoke each morning.

For local temperature this product includes a wireless temperature sensor which is displayed on the unit for a few seconds when the snooze button is pressed. I was hoping the temp would just always be available so one could look across the room but this is not the case.

For local weather conditions this unit requires an Internet connection. Included with the unit is a small transmitter which is connected to an available port of your Ethernet router. Once connected you register your unit and select a local weather station (usually a local school or public place) then the weather for that location will periodically be pushed to the device. Across the top of the device it will cycle through morning, afternoon and evening weather summaries (high and low temp and an icon indicating sunshine, cloudy or rain). The middle will show the wind speed and direction, below that is a brief summary for the next 3 days followed by a scroll which tells you what location was selected or the local temp (if the snooze button is pressed).

Overall I liked the functionality of this unit with one exception. In my house we use a baby monitor which operates on the 900MHz frequency spectrum. When the transmitter broadcasts the weather updates to the unit we heard 4 loud bursts of static through the monitor which in the middle of the night is an unwelcome distrurbance. Unfortunately for this reason we had to return it.
